KDP Squeak – Autumn/Winter 2019

Autumn again already… Who can believe it?!
Theo returned to work after his annual leave on the 14th October and it has been go go go ever since. We have welcomed lots of new patients this year, many of which have taken advantage of our membership plan and its many benefits.

Our website has had a bit of an update and we now have the ability to register at the practice online.
Our Blog post section is now live which we will be regularly updating with dental-related posts. So far we have had a phenomenal response to the current blog posts, with patients really enjoying them. We currently have: Acid Erosion, Misconceptions Regarding Root Canal Treatment, Radiographs as a Diagnostic Tool, and a short post with a link to read the result of our recent Practice Inspection.

Our Healthcare Improvement Scotland Practice Inspection took place on the 4th of June. It is a thoroughly comprehensive inspection and we were absolutely thrilled to receive such high grades in the categories assessed.

We are still keeping Javier, our Associate Dentist, busy with lots of implant and orthodontic cases. Sometimes we even let him out of the surgery! Javier also practices general dentistry at KDP as well, and is enjoying getting to know more and more of our patients over time. Faye, who became a patient of Javier’s just this year when she had an implant placed, tells us she has been fortunate enough to work with lots of dentists over the years, but Theo and Javier top the list as both take so much care and pride in their work and are a pleasure to work with, even on Monday’s…

November is Mouth Cancer Action Month, and every year we try to raise awareness in one way or another. There are, on average, almost 7,800 new cases of mouth cancer diagnosed in the UK each year. This has increased by over half in the last decade alone, and there are still more than 2,300 deaths yearly. These are worrying statistics, but with early detection, diagnosis and treatment this number could be significantly lower. As many people do not have a registered dentist, or do not attend regularly, we at KDP thought about what we could do to help.
We decided to offer 5 minute free-of-charge soft tissue checks throughout November. During these appointments we will assess only the soft tissues for signs of oral cancer. Anyone, registered or non-registered, can call to book one of these appointments and we will be happy to see them.
Visit https://www.dentalhealth.org/spotthesigns for more information on what to look out for.

We will be running our winter fundraiser again this year. This will include the usual games, quizzes and raffles, with prizes including a luxury hamper, very generous donations from Caorunn Gin, Speyside Brewery, Keith Brewery and many, many more. We will also have another bake sale with some delicious baked goods on offer. The practice will also be a drop off point for MFR’s Mission Christmas where anyone can deliver a gift for a child who may otherwise wake up to no gifts on Christmas Day. This year all proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Keith Cancer Link and MFR’s Mission Christmas.
